doggy DIY – making cookies

LO doesn’t really eat jarred baby food anymore so while browsing Pinterest, I found some 2 and 3 ingredient dog treat recipes and got the just of what I needed to do. I’m going to just dive into this recipe as it is pretty straight forward.

Before I start, here is a chart of toxic stuff for your dog. Avoid these bad boys and you should be able to create a tasty and safe treat for a few bucks.

First you need the following;

  • 2 jars of baby food (I used chicken and veggies)
  • 3/4 cup of flour (any type of wheat, rice, oat or even barley flour)
  • 1 1/4 cups of oats (I used rolled oats)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a bowl pour flour and oats together. Mix the flour through.

Add in the baby food. If you have pumpkin or unsweetened apple sauce, try that!

Mix the dough around until it has the consistency of fresh play dough.

Lightly flour a clean surface and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch.

Use cookie cutters or a pizza cutter to make whatever shapes you desire. I used stars, a bone and then made little squares for pocket treats.

As I was filling up the cookie sheet, Mr. Stevie Y decided he would clean the bowl.

Fill up that cookie sheet!

Pop these doggy noms in the oven for 10 minutes, flip them and then put them back in for another 10 minutes. I actually took them out a bit earlier because Kaiya loves softer cookies.

Now here’s the test. Will your dog do tricks for them?

So unimpressed!

I have made other flavours in the past and as long as it’s safe for your dog to eat, the combinations are endless.
