I have been on a short hiatus. With the holidays, work and LO, you can imagine how busy I have been! OH and I have been preparing to leave for a vacation/destination wedding. Some very good friends of ours are getting married in Grand Turks – so we are joining them on a cruise and to attend said special event and leaving LO behind. OH is happy that he gets to wear his kilt and I get to wear a beautiful bridesmaid dress! We just have to get OH over his fears of flying… and the open ocean. I keep telling him about the food and mini golf on the cruise and the snorkling adventure we are supposed to go on at St. Marteen (pics from my new underwater camera when I get back – I promise!).
I mentioned that LO won’t be joining us. She will in fact be staying with my mum and as a thanks I made her a couple of things. This time I will show you a simple but fun and great smelling sugar scrub. I use them for my feet and sometimes hands but they can be used for any part of your body that needs exfoliating. They are great to use just before a shower.
Here are the ingredients I used;
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1 vanilla bean
- 1/2 tsp of artificial vanilla extract
Add the sugar and coconut oil to a medium or large mixing bowl. Mash it together a little to break down any large chunks. LO and the animals watched from the sidelines.
They all stay together – it’s a family thing!
Then with the point of a knife cut your vanilla bean down the center and open it up (I did this on top of parchment paper so I could catch any stray seeds).
Scrape the inside of the bean and add it to your bowl. You can also add 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract if you think it’s necessary.
Mash everything together and break up any large chunks – I used my fingers for this. I even tasted it before washing my hands to see what’s up. I don’t like coconut.
Get little mason jars and fill them up. I got 3 filled and decided that I wanted to make a white sugar lemon coconut scrub too (it’s great for acne!).
Now you could just screw on the lids and give them to people as add on gifts, but I had some extra fabric, glue and scissors to make the tops fancier.
I cut circles out of the flower fabric for the brown sugar scrub and glued them to the top. They looked so cute.
I am sure my mum will just love these little add-on gifts. I wanted to keep some for myself.
I will put the ingredients I used for the white sugar scrub below;
- 3/4 cup of white sugar (you can use cane sugar)
- 1/4 cup of coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (or one freshly squeezed lemon if you have a lemon around)
